David Jones engaged with us to help reinvent their food offering of the premium department store’s food hall at Bondi Junction, Sydney. The food hall is the flagship of the new David Jones Food offering and its transformation was a milestone project for the brand.
The new design celebrates multiple specialist “worlds” of newly developed David Jones Food, the theatre of food production, and the joy of dining in good company.
"The new David Jones Food Hall has completely reimagined the way customers shop for, and experience, food by integrating world-class eating experiences with a retail offer focused on provenance, quality, freshness and taste."
Since opening, the David Jones Food Hall at Bondi Junction has been trading at double its targeted turnover.
On the day of opening, 18,000 people came through. This has had a strong positive knock on effect with an uplift in sales throughout the rest of the store.

The old food hall is replaced with a richer, more textural and egalitarian experience. As you enter, quite literally through the heart of its kitchens, developed in collaboration with David Jones Food Services Partner Neil Perry, you’ll realise that nothing that follows is expected. Surrounded by house-made delicacies and dishes, convenient pre-prepared meals, and the best of local and internationally sourced products, everything is on offer to try and buy.
The new design is a shift from a traditionally ‘retail focused’ food hall to create a destination that entices people to spend time there, to meet friends and dwell, eat, see, watch, experiment and learn. Multiple dining options mean that you can eat wherever you like in the 2,500 sqm space; with the butcher himself, at the fishmongers, the sushi bar, the re-imagined 12m oyster & wine bar, in the exclusive private dining room, tastings bar, or Neil Perry run restaurant and café.
