Landini Associates' "Next Generation Renewal" retail format for Coles Australia was first launched in 2012 with a flagship store in Southlands, Victoria. Our design has since rolled out across the nation.

The ambition was to develop a concept that reflected the demands of the increasingly savvy customer and substantially improve their shopping experience by delivering something truly unique to the Australian marketplace.

Our complete reinvention included the creation of a full scratch bakery, on-site kitchen for fresh ready-meals, cheese wall, a sushi bar, and an in store Patisserie and café with Barista made coffee.

"As the public demands more, the new Coles looks more like a food market hall than a supermarket."

Our scope of work included Brand Strategy, Master Planning, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Wayfinding, Signage, Ticketing, Tone of Voice, Uniforms, Visual Merchandising and Design Guidelines for National Roll Out.

Coles’ owners Wesfarmers described our design as “the nation’s best supermarket”. Customers love it and it’s consistently trading 40% up across all departments on its pre-refurbishment turnover.

"From specialist butchers and pastry chefs to cheese and salumi bars, luxury is finally filtering down to the grocery aisles!"

"It’s the best! I love it."
